Air-conditioning in modern office buildings is basically a standard. However, many companies continue to operate in old buildings, where it is really hard to bear in hot weather, let alone focus on the computer or service clients. That is why managers often wonder whether they should install air-conditioning in the office. Certainly, office air-conditioning installation is an expense for a company, but is can be also seen as an investment.

The operation of an air-conditioner is often associated with moisture. Therefore, many people say that air-conditioning is a habitat of bacteria and fungi that get into our lungs and cause diseases. This is not true. A properly serviced air-conditioning system has its filters replaced and these are designed to purify the air from the above-mentioned organisms, among others. The filters also capture pollen and dust in the air, which is why air-conditioning is recommended for allergy sufferers and asthmatics. Modern air conditioners are even able to purify air from smog, which is becoming an increasingly bigger issue in big cities. Furthermore, air-conditioning systems dry the air, which makes it more difficult for the bacteria living in our homes to survive. However, the prerequisite is that the air-conditioning system must be serviced and its filters replaced on a regular basis, yet many people forget about it or just want to save on it. The result is that everything that settles on the filters just starts to squeeze through them and reaches our lungs. In such a case, using an air-conditioning system can be actually unhealthy.

 Setting the temperature and airflow

Many people desiring to cool down after entering the house in heat sit centrally under the air conditioner, setting the lowest temperature possible and the airflow on themselves. It’s the worst thing to do. Air-conditioning will affect your body like an icy wind and may make you catch a cold right away. A correctly set air conditioner should not blow air on household members, but cool the air throughout the room. Additionally, in order not to catch cold, the temperature difference between the inside and the outside should not exceed 6 degrees. Therefore, when getting back home during hot weather, do not set the minimum temperature. Do not sit under the air conditioner either. You should patiently wait until the air in the house cools down.

Industrial ventilation systems are of great importance for production processes. With a production process going, various air contaminants may be created and they have a negative impact on the air quality in industrial rooms and halls. This type of pollution contaminants can often be dangerous for both people working there and can have a harmful effect on technological processes. This also applies to the operation of some industrial machines, as the lack of ventilation or incorrectly selected parameters can accelerate their wear and tear. The amount and nature of air contaminants forming during technological processes can be relatively easily determined. However, a bigger issue is to determine the amount and way of contaminants spreading. In this case, it always requires a thorough knowledge of the technological process and proper installation measurements. Comfort air-conditioning:

Comfort air-conditioning involves automatic control of indoor conditions to ensure thermal comfort for people throughout the year. People, their well-being, health and productivity at work are the priority here. We talk about air-conditioning when the intended action is to maintain relevant temperature, relative humidity, pressure and air cleanliness parameters in a room.

Industrial air-conditioning:

Industrial air-conditioning provides such air temperature, humidity and cleanliness in rooms or a separate space as to allow technological processes to run correctly. Typically, work environment parameters are determined individually for a given process and lie within strictly defined ranges. Failure to meet the required parameters results in damage to materials, equipment or prevents the production process.

It is based on a mechanism similar to that used in industrial air-conditioning. A liquid is cooled by evaporating another liquid, called a refrigerant. 

The most important application of the refrigeration technology is to store perishable foodstuffs in the so-called cold stores, which prevents rotting, moulding, weight loss and changing the nutritional value of stored food products. Refrigeration is one of the most important food industry processes, as it slows down the growth of bacteria in food, maintains its organoleptic properties and extends shelf life.

Equipment used in commercial and industrial refrigeration applications are: 

  • refrigerators,
  • shopwindows and glass-cases in supermarkets, patisseries, bars, ice-cream shops, etc.,
  • fridges used in industrial kitchens (maturing rooms and product ripening retarders),
  • fridges for pharmaceutical products,
  • blast chillers.

Food products requiring storage at a temperature slightly above 0°C are mainly mature cheeses, beverages (beer, wine, juices, carbonated beverages), cold meats and deli products.

Meat, fish, fruit, vegetables and fresh milk products are stored at around 0°C.

Negative temperatures down to -25°C are used in storage of ice cream and other frozen products, such as fish or vegetables, and products processed to extend their shelf life.
